Frequently asked questions

Doctor and appointments

Which conditions does Dr. Nigar Gahramanova treat?
Pregnancy care, vaginal birth and cesarean section, infertility, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, cervical diseases and HPV, sexually transmitted infections, menopause complaints, as well as vaginoplasty, labiaplasty and other aesthetic gynecological operations.
Where do appointments take place?
The main practice is in Baku, at Məlhəm Beynəlxalq Hospital (24 Rasul Rza Street). Consultation and surgery days are also organized regularly at Gəncə Memorial Hospital — dates are announced by phone and on Instagram.
How can I book an appointment?
Call +994 50 517 37 17 or write via WhatsApp. Appointments are by prior booking; a convenient time is chosen together.
What should I bring to the first appointment?
If available: previous test and ultrasound results, a list of medications you take, your menstrual calendar. If you have nothing — no problem: all necessary examinations can be done on site.
Are my examination results confidential?
Yes. All your data is protected by medical confidentiality and can be disclosed to third parties only with your consent. All consultations on intimate topics are fully confidential.
What should I do in an emergency?
In case of heavy bleeding, acute pain, or cessation of fetal movements during pregnancy, do not wait — call 103 or go to the emergency department of the nearest hospital. Phone and WhatsApp are not emergency channels.

Pregnancy and childbirth

From which week should pregnancy follow-up start?
As soon as you get a positive test. An early visit makes it possible to determine the location and duration of the pregnancy precisely and to see risks from the very beginning.
Vaginal birth or cesarean — who decides?
The medical situation dictates the decision, and we discuss it together. Both methods have their indications; the goal is the health of mother and baby.
How long after a cesarean should I avoid pregnancy?
It is usually recommended to wait at least 12–18 months so the uterine scar fully strengthens. The exact period is determined at an individual examination.
How much weight should I gain during pregnancy?
On average 11–14 kg is considered normal, but it varies individually depending on your starting weight — it is calculated together at the appointment.
Which medications are not allowed in pregnancy?
Do not take any medication without consulting your doctor — even seemingly ordinary drugs can affect the fetus. Every situation is assessed individually.

Gynecological check-up

I have no complaints — should I still come for a check-up?
Yes, once a year. Many gynecological diseases are symptomless in the early stage; early detection simplifies treatment.
Is a gynecological exam painful?
Discomfort is minimal and brief. If you feel tense, say so — the pace of the exam is adjusted to you.
Can virgins have a gynecological examination?
Yes — examination methods are chosen according to the situation (external exam, abdominal ultrasound, lab tests) and the hymen is not touched.
How often should a Pap smear be done?
The general rule: from age 21, every 1–3 years, depending on results and age. An individual schedule is set at the appointment.
Must a cervical erosion always be cauterized?
No. First a Pap smear and infection tests are done, treatment follows the results — a decision about coagulation comes only after that. "Cauterizing" without tests is not correct practice.

Infertility

We have had no children for a year — where do we start?
With a couple's evaluation: a hormonal panel and ultrasound for the woman, a semen analysis for the man. Once the cause is found, a plan is built.
Is it always the woman who gets examined for infertility?
No — the couple is always examined. The male factor is involved in a significant share of cases; the semen analysis is one of the first tests.
Can we go straight to IVF?
IVF is not a last resort but a method with specific indications. Sometimes simpler treatment is enough — which is why a full evaluation comes first.
How long does infertility treatment take?
It depends on the cause: sometimes a few months of hormonal correction are enough, sometimes a surgical stage or IVF is required. A realistic timeline is discussed after the first evaluation.

Aesthetic gynecology

Is a vaginoplasty consultation confidential?
Completely confidential — like all consultations on intimate topics. Ask your question without embarrassment; this is the doctor's everyday work.
How long do I stay in the clinic after vaginoplasty?
One night of observation is usually enough; in some cases same-day discharge is possible. The recovery period proceeds under staged medical supervision.
How long after childbirth can vaginoplasty be done?
It is usually considered no earlier than 6 months after the birth, once the tissues have fully recovered. If you plan to give birth in the future, be sure to mention it at the consultation.
Do I have to decide about surgery at the first consultation?
No. The first consultation is for information — thinking it over, asking questions and deciding without haste is your right.
Can vaginismus be treated?
Yes. Vaginismus is a real, involuntary medical condition, and it can be treated with a staged, individual approach. The pace of the process is set by your comfort.
This information is educational and does not replace a doctor's examination. Diagnosis and treatment decisions are made only through an individual examination.
