1. Absence of ovulation
Hormonal disorders and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) prevent the egg from maturing. Signs: irregular or infrequent periods. The diagnosis is made with a hormonal panel and follicle tracking; in many cases medication can correct it.
2. Blocked tubes
Past infections and inflammation can create adhesions in the fallopian tubes. This is checked with a special examination; depending on the degree, surgical repair or the IVF route is chosen.
3. Endometriosis
Growth of the uterine lining outside the uterus — it can present with painful periods and infertility. It is one of the diseases that goes undiagnosed for years; laparoscopy offers both diagnosis and treatment.
4. Male factor
Involved in a significant share of cases. A semen analysis is simple, painless and inexpensive — which is why a couple's evaluation should always include the man from the start. The "let only the woman be examined" approach is the mistake that wastes the most time.
5. Uterine factors
Submucosal fibroids, polyps and adhesions can prevent embryo implantation. They are detected with ultrasound and, when needed, hysteroscopy; most are resolved surgically.
- First step: come to the consultation as a couple
- For the woman: hormonal panel, ultrasound, tubal check
- For the man: semen analysis
- Based on the results: a treatment plan or IVF preparation
